The main source for understanding religious teachings is the single report (khabar al-wāḥid) which has been extensively discussed in the principles of jurisprudence, giving rise to various profound discussions. One of these discussions pertains to the validity of a solitary report based on its chain of transmission, which prominent scholars of principles have acknowledged after numerous examinations. This paper addresses the question of the scope of this validity, which can be evaluated in three areas: legal rulings, beliefs, and the discovery of factual matters. What this paper seeks to articulate and prove is the allocation of the validity of single reports to legal rulings. However, this does not imply that single reports are without benefit in other domains. Rather, they can be utilized as evidence and testimony alongside other proofs, provided that certainty or decisive surety is attained.
