Well-known reports known as "Man Balagh" (lit. he who has received) narrations have been reported, indicating the granting of reward to one who performs an act for which reward has been promised. Jurists have discussed their meaning whether it is the reward due to obedience or the promised reward in the primary or secondary title, or the authority of the weak narration containing the reward or something else. Al-Sayyid al-Ḥakīm has narrated some of these narrations and has not addressed the problems regarding their chain of transmission. He has stated that it is the promised reward which Allah grants, even if the narration which he acts upon is a weak one. He remarks: Using the preposition “min” (from) in the declarative sense is contrary to the apparent meaning. Here, we present the transmission of these narratives, with nine of them being authentic. Firstly, we note their chains of transmission, secondly, we argue there is no reason not to consider their chains, thirdly, we interpret reaching as rational reaching rather than absolute reaching, fourthly, we analyze the meaning of "min" as explanatory or restrictive, fifthly, we argue that narratives are not limited to existential acts, but also include abstention from prohibitions or dislikes according to Sayyid al-Hakim. Then there is a supplementary note (tatimma) that includes generalizing the texts to mere reaching which entails reward, the possibility of proving reaching through the implication of the Sharīʿa rulings, the inclusion of “reaching” to the intuitive narration, the inclusion of the reward for a case of possible prohibition or dislike, that reaching is true in the case of the deficiency of the indication of the narration and its absence, the inclusion of texts to inform about external subjects, an approximation of tolerance in the transmission of virtues, stories and sermons. The late jurists interpreted the meaning of the man balagh narrations as tolerance (tasāmuḥ) in the evidence of the Sunnah, although it does not include all views, but rather addresses one of the views in the issue, which is the saying of tolerance of evidence of the mustahabs and makruhs. The result appears in the establishment of the desirability (istiḥbāb) and in the authority of weak narrations and a lack of authority in the traditions (sunan).
