Muḥaqiq Naʾīnī (ra) has touched on generative causes (musabbibāt tawlīdī) in various chapters of the principles of jurisprudence. He has presented topics and discussions based on it. The current research, which was carried out using library resources and a descriptive analytical method, investigates generative causes from the perspective of Al-Muḥaqqiq al-Nāʾīnī (ra). The conducted research shows that he admits that there is a difference between motivations and the generative causes saying that it is possible that an obligation (taklīf) may extend to the cause. On the other hand, it is impossible to assign obligations to motivations. In this research, it has been clarified that the criteria of Sharīʿa rulings are among the motivations which obligations do not extend to. Also, the rule of differentiation of generative causes and motivations was examined from the perspective of Al-Muḥaqqiq al-Nāʾīnī. In the end, the application of practical principles within the generative causes as well as the Lawgiver's method in legislation (tashrīʿ) have been explained.
