This article investigates one of the issues pertaining to the principles of jurisprudence, one that prepares the rule for the derivation of secondary Islamic laws. The article seeks to explicate the criterion for enjoining the good and forbidding the evil. The issues discussed in this study play an important role in distinguishing irshādi (advisory) orders and prohibitions from Mawlawī ones. That is because the Wise Legislator has taken the creative addresses (khiṭābāt) from orders and prohibitions as a means to clarify its rulings, whether it is a prescriptive rule or a defining one.
This study investigates the issue in three chapters. In the first chapter, it attempts to show the interpretation of the criterion for enjoining the good and forbidding the evil and its various instances. It sheds light on its evidence in the second chapter, and then it comes with adequate examples in which the statement was used to guide based on the book and the Sunnah in the third chapter. And the article explores the criterion trying to draw the attention of scholars. It is hoped that with this article, the beginner gets acquainted with the topic and those who are already acquainted find some benefit in it.
